Proud to Run 5k Recap

The Proud to Run 5k this morning was a delight.

I almost didn’t think it would happen. Early in the morning, I woke to the sound of a massive thunderstorm, but by the time I woke up for real it had faded away and the day turned out to be sunny and even a bit too warm.

Proud to Run was one of the smaller races I’ve run.  The crowd was friendly and the race wasn’t oversold, so there was plenty of room for everyone to run at their own pace.

I was joined for this event by the lovely Beau and Sean, as well as the adorable Mr. Christopher – who was running the 10k as his first ever race, and did sensationally.

Happy Faces!

As an added surprise, country singer Chely Wright (who only recently made waves when she came out) was the surprise guest at the race, as she’s going to be the Grand Marshall of the parade tomorrow.  She was lovely and posed for pictures with the race winners.

For not having trained, I did okay on the course, and enjoyed watching all the joy of the people attending the event.  All races are for charity, but this one seemed full of people who really gave a damn. (I’ve run races that I will admit I never really knew the beneficiary of.)

(Here’s the beaming Mr. Christopher after finishing his first race.)

Just another lovely day at the races – and all for a good cause.

Proud to run 5k/10k this Saturday!

This coming Saturday, with some friends, I’ll be running the 2010 Proud to Run 5k in Montrose Harbor.

This run is for a wonderful cause, as proceeds go to two wonderful causes (Gerber/Hart Library and Pride Youth.) There’s also a 10k run and a 2 mile walk, if either of those are more your speed.

Granted, I’m a superslacker at running as of late, but it’s for a good cause, so I’m proud to be running it.
